Sony Ericsson Announces Xperia Line to get Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich Update

In a blog post today, Sony Ericsson divulged that Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich would be coming to the entire Xperia lineup. This follows the recent news that ICS would be coming to a number of devices as a result of the AOSP source being recently released. The Sony Ericsson devices to get the update include the Xperia Arc series, Xperia Play, Xperia Neo series, Xperia Pro, Xperia Active, Xperia Ray, and lastly the Sony Ericsson Live with Walkman.
There is no mention of when exactly ICS will arrive, but further details will be posted as they're made available.

SE promised the update. But who will deliver if it won't be around come early next year?
I'm more concerned if my Samsung Galaxy i9000 is getting ICS. Now that would be nice.

I don't know why you are so quick to brush it aside just because no dates where given. I think the idea is simply a message to excite their current user base. When SE promised 2.3.4 back in May for October, it got to my phone right on time. A week and a half ago I decided that I wanted an Android phone because my iPhone was not going to work well with my Sony Ericsson MBW-150 Bluetooth wristwatch (alternate Bluetooth stack for Jailbroken phones was required and it worked to the exclusion of my other Bluetooth devices without even CallerID). I recalled something about Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich coming to the Sony Ericsson Xperia Play, so I looked it up and confirmed: "Yep! ICS is on the way. I'll consider it while shopping." It had to have been announced before then for me to remember something about it later, so I'd say that this news is pretty late!Anyway, I spent a few more days shopping and eventually did settle on the Xperia Play 4G from AT&T (my current carrier) for free with a 2-year contract. It's not the greatest Android phone, but it is said to be indisputably the best for gaming thanks to the integrated game controller. That said, I've had nothing but trouble and I can't wait for ICS to see if it resolves some of my issues. Twice now I have found it completely dead in the morning after leaving it fully charged! There is no notes or timer app. I get messages about it being full when I've pretty much only downloaded the free games it came with plus sparingly few other apps (OpenWatch, Pandora, Google Voice, a flashlight, etc) and moved all of the ones that allowed me to the 8GB mSD card. I'm completely puzzled. It pains me to see my brother playing SNES games on his iPhone 4 with a Wii Remote + Classic Controller better than my choppy and stuttery Xperia Play and I am constantly annoyed by many niggling things that just aren't done right (I have plenty of criticisms for iOS as well).
I know Android 2.3 Gingerbread is now two major version numbers behind so I hope the bump to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich is just that much more polished.
