    Google will sort you out

Google Hub will blend into your home like telescreens in 1984.
"Mark, that bacon sandwich is not environmentally friendly, you are being fined 500 credits for violating paragraph 1 subsection 2 of Global Warming code of conduct and reported to the Ministry of Vegan Affairs. Be well."

    "Anandtech is older" 😂

I do like Home Hub, and $149 seems pretty reasonable.

"Note, no tech details about Home Hub: screen resolution, battery life, other key info"

I think that's the point, it's very much in the "it just works" Apple mould

I just got the Lenovo Smart Display, which is the same thing except it has a camera. Great device, I use it more than I thought I would.

Pixel Slate had to match the iPad Air in price to win. It doesn't. Fail.
  • Meteor2 - Tuesday, October 9, 2018 - link

And $199 for a keyboard? Is that a joke??
  • Peskarik - Tuesday, October 9, 2018 - link

Well, they had to pay Annie Leibowitz for the "partnership". ,-)

All that keystroke logging and data mining costs money, friend.
  • imaheadcase - Tuesday, October 9, 2018 - link

That screen rez though. that is what is appealing. Using it straight as a tablet with that screen will be amazing. Assuming rest of hardware is up to par.
  • imaheadcase - Tuesday, October 9, 2018 - link

Just a note about camera features they are showing, some have been available since the 6P from 3rd party apps already.
  • imaheadcase - Tuesday, October 9, 2018 - link

Also machine learning zoom has never been good, even on a full fledged PC.
  • imaheadcase - Tuesday, October 9, 2018 - link

Google Lens in the camera..that is kinda of a big deal..lets hope its toggled on and off. In fact, i hope lots of the AI stuff is.
  • Peskarik - Tuesday, October 9, 2018 - link

I am sure there will be a toggle to "switch off" the whatever they do "behind the screen" so to speak. Well, you will believe you have turned stuff off. ;-)
  • imaheadcase - Tuesday, October 9, 2018 - link

Well they didn't on 6p for HDR+ on photos. They literally enabled it by default even if you turned it off for some reason. Which is insane.

No tech specs for google home device n pixel slate...i hope this isn’t a new trend, i mean even Apple gives us more info..WHAT A SHAME!
  • Adityaseven7 - Tuesday, October 9, 2018 - link

And none for the phones too! smh
  • Peskarik - Tuesday, October 9, 2018 - link

    Specs are top.
Specs do not really matter anymore.
  • Peskarik - Tuesday, October 9, 2018 - link

    845/4/128/2915
  • imaheadcase - Tuesday, October 9, 2018 - link

It will be on google store later today i think. The new phones already are.
  • Meteor2 - Tuesday, October 9, 2018 - link

I think Google are saying "look at what it can do, not what it is". To be honest the specs download at the XS launch seemed completely superfluous. The game demo said it all about the power of those phones. (Note, no game demo here! Google knows no-one can build an ARM chip to compete with Apple's).

That thing with GA and auto-answering telemarketers - THAT's great! "Hello. Hello, who are you? I want to tell you about the great deal I can offer you on your life insurance. Drop dead, bip". :-)
  • imaheadcase - Tuesday, October 9, 2018 - link

$899 for the XL version..what was the 6p when it came out? That seems kinda steep imo. Maybe if the stand was included.
  • Peskarik - Tuesday, October 9, 2018 - link

quite "cheap" compared to some others
  • shabby - Tuesday, October 9, 2018 - link

The s9+ was cheaper when it came out and looks easy better than the pixel 3. I'm not sure where this premium price is coming from, nothing about the pixel 3 screams premium, especially the boring design.
  • Meteor2 - Tuesday, October 9, 2018 - link

    The camera is amazing though.
  • shabby - Tuesday, October 9, 2018 - link

That's not enough to warrant such a price.
  • Meteor2 - Tuesday, October 9, 2018 - link

Nokia 7.1 feels like the perfect 5X replacement. Launched three years later, slightly larger screen and battery is same size body, about 80% faster processor, same two years of major updates and three years of security. Most importantly: same price!
  • DigitalFreak - Tuesday, October 9, 2018 - link

Nexus 6p 64 GB was $549 at launch. The Pixel 3 XL with 64 GB is $899. Quite the price jump in just 3 years.
  • Teckk - Tuesday, October 9, 2018 - link

No notch in Pixel 3, only in XL !
